Postcard labelled Catalogue 422 after a painting of Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres.

Ingres painted "une odalique" in 1814.

Orientalist French Neoclassical painter (1780 – 1867) well known for his orientalistic paintings of the female nude.

Ingres studied the Italian and Flemish Renaissance masters and received the exclusive Order "Pour le Mérite".

The painting of a concubine on the Ottoman court was commissioned by Napoleon's sister, Queen Caroline Murat of Naples. It attracted lots of critisism for the exotic theme. The Louvre purchased the work in 1899.
